โLos Angeles is a city at a crossroads,โ said Sonja Diaz, the founding director of UCLAโs Latino Policy and Politics Institute. โWeโve seen great increases in housing insecurity, food insecurity and widening economic inequality.โ While these issues are long-standing, Diaz noted that theyโve been โexacerbated because of a lack of leadership from City Hall and coordination across jurisdictions,โ especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
